Victor E. Bertolina, P.E. – President

Victor E. Bertolina, P.E., President, joined SAI Consulting Engineers, Inc. in 1979 and currently holds the position of President.  Previously, Vic served as Vice President – Engineering, Manager of SAI’s Structure Department, and Project Engineer in the Structure Department.  Prior to joining SAI, he held positions with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, District 11-0, and the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works.  Vic was commissioned in 1971 in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant.  He participated in the USAR Combat Engineers where he rose to the rank of Captain and held the position of Company Executive Officer.

Vic earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971 and has completed numerous courses toward his master’s degree in civil engineering at Pitt. He is a registered engineer in several states including Pennsylvania, Florida, West Virginia, South Carolina, Michigan, Ohio,  and Kansas.  A sampling of notable projects Vic has been involved with during his career at SAI include the Liberty Bridge, Fleming Park Bridge, Clairton-Glassport Bridge, Wabash HOV Bridge, and the rehabilitation of the 6th, 7th, and 9th Street Bridges. His professional interests have always included bridge inspection, rehabilitation and design.

Vic has been very active in professional societies over the years and is a 25+-year member of the Engineering Society of Western Pennsylvania’s International Bridge Conference Committee. His community involvement includes being a long-term member of the board of visitors for the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Pittsburgh and a parish council member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.


James J. Lombardi, P.E. – Executive Vice President

James J. Lombardi, P.E., Executive Vice President, began his civil engineering career with the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Departments of Transportation and the Allegheny County Department of Engineering and Construction before joining Salvucci Associates, Inc. in 1981.  Since then, he has led the Construction Management Group of SAI, now serving as Principal-in-Charge and Executive Vice President.  Jim is also very involved with the company’s marketing and business development efforts and was instrumental in the opening of SAI’s Florida operations.

Holding a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, Jim is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and Florida.  A sampling of some of the many notable projects Jim has overseen during his career at SAI include the rehabilitation of the Highland Park Bridge, the West End Bridge, the South 10th Street Bridge, the East Street Interchange of S.R. 0279, the Southside Works Infrastructure, and the $350 Million Mon/Fayette Expressway Uniontown to Brownsville Phase II Project.

Jim is very active professionally in the field of civil engineering, serving as a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE), the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), the ASCE Student Award Foundation Board, the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), and the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE), Pittsburgh Chapter, where he currently serves as President.

Jim is a longtime volunteer and supporter of the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.  For many years, he served as a member of the visiting committee for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and he is a past president of the Pitt Civil Engineering Alumni Club.  In 2008, Jim was honored by the University of Pittsburgh when he was named the Distinguished Alumni of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.


Glenn D. Stickel, P.E. – Vice President

Glenn D. Stickel, P.E., joined SAI Consulting Engineers, Inc. in 1982 and currently holds the position of Vice President.  Previously, Glenn held the positions of bridge inspector, bridge designer, project engineer, and project manager before being promoted to Vice President in 2004.  Prior to joining SAI, Glenn began his civil engineering career with Pullman Swindell in 1980.

Glenn earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from West Virginia University and a master of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.  He is a registered engineer in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. A sampling of the notable projects Glenn has managed during his career at SAI include the Masontown Bridge Replacement, Fort Pitt Boulevard/Interstate Connector, the Lane Bane Bridge Rehabilitation, and the  6th, 7th, and 9th Street Bridge rehabilitations.

Glenn has been very active in professional societies throughout the years including the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE), where he has served on their board of directors and national conference committees, and the Association for Bridge Construction and Design (ABCD).  He is an avid golfer, has served as a board member for his church, and coached little league baseball in his community.


Richard B. Kauffman, P.E. – Vice President

Richard B. Kauffman, P.E., Vice President, began his civil engineering career with SAI in 1979 and has served the firm in increasing roles of responsibility from staff engineer to Senior Project Manager, where he has served for 18 years managing some of our most complex and high-profile projects for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and various local government agencies.

Holding a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, Rich is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and is a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Altoona Section.

 

 


John A. Rautzahn, P.E. – Vice President

John A. Rautzahn, P.E., Vice President, began his civil engineering career in 1988 as a young structural engineer working with established civil consulting engineering firms in eastern Pennsylvania on transportation projects throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York, and Maryland.  In 2004, John joined SAI and worked closely with our original Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Branch Office Manager, Tom Brado, P.E., to help establish the Harrisburg office and to lead SAI’s structural design and project management efforts by successfully managing numerous transportation projects throughout eastern Pennsylvania. 

Holding a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and a master of science degree in engineering science from The Pennsylvania State University, John is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, and Maryland.

John is very active professionally in the field of civil engineering, serving as treasurer of the Association for Bridge Construction and Design (ABCD) Susquehanna Chapter, a 3-year director on the board for the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Harrisburg Chapter, and serving on the ACEC/PennDOT Task Force, Contract Administration, and Quality Task Force Transportation Subcommittees for the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA).


Dr. Ahmad Ahmadi, P.E. – Director of Structures, Quality and Design Technology

Dr. Ahmad Ahmadi, P.E., began his civil engineering career when he joined SAI Consulting Engineers, Inc. in 1986 where he currently holds the position of Director of Structures, Quality and Design Technology.  Previously, Ahmad held the positions of bridge designer, project engineer, and structures department manager before being promoted to Principal and Director of Structures, Quality and Design Technology in 2015.

Ahmad earned a master of science and doctorate degrees in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.  He is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Florida, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Virginia, and North Carolina.  Ahmad is an active member in the Association for Bridge Construction and Design (ABCD) – Pittsburgh, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the American Concrete Institute (ACI).
