SAI was responsible for the final design of four bridges including and the associated approach roadway for this heavily utilized airport highway interchange that is an integral part of the Mon Fayette Expressway.

Physical Features: 
  • Located from S.R. 0030 East of Clinton to Pittsburgh International Airport terminal entrance.
  • Four-lane, limited-access highway.
  • Four bridges designed by SAI: two eight-span structures, 1,545'; one four-span curved structure, 694'; one simple-span structure, 109'.
Other Features: 
  • Traffic maintenance via a combination of temporary roads, detours, and off-line construction.
  • Modification of an existing interchange at the entrance to Pittsburgh International Airport.
  • Runway protective zones in close proximity to bridge construction
  • Federal Aviation Administration clearance obtained on flight restrictions for construction.
  • LFD and LRFD design methodologies used for both substructure and superstructure designs.
  • Signing and sign lighting for sections 54A, 53B, and 52C.
