Construction Inspection

SAI was responsible for the construction inspection for the repair and resurfacing of S.R. 00579-A07 north and south bound (Station 629+36 to 652+06) including 10 ramps entering and exiting the City of Pittsburgh and S.R. 0885 Boulevard of the Allies. In addition, this contract included repairs to four steel girder structures.

Physical Features: 
  • 10,000' of roadway (S.R. 0579 and S.R. 0885).
  • 1000' thirteen-span continuous steel girder structure (Ramp K).
  • 150' three-span continuous steel girder structure (Ramp F).
  • 100' simple-span continuous steel girder structure (S.R. 0579).
  • 80' simple-span continuous steel girder structure (Bigelow Boulevard).
Other Features: 
  • Milling, concrete patching, asphalt paving of mainline roadway and ramps.
  • Phased construction with weekend closures and detours.
  • Replacement of expansion dams (Ramp K).
  • Hydro-Demolition of concrete deck and placement of new modified Latex concrete deck (Ramp K).
  • Excavation of approach slab and structure backfill to rebuild the existing (deteriorated) backwall (Ramp K). All associated work on Ramp K including dam replacement, Hyrdo-demo/new Latex deck, and rebuilding backwall and approach slab completed and re-opened to traffic in 30 days.
  • Class "A" concrete repairs to pier columns, pier caps, and abutments.
  • Neoprene seals removed from expansion dams and replaced with silicone sealant.
  • Replacement of (racked/tilted) rocker bearings with elastomeric bearing pads.
