SR 4046-D10, Downers Run Bridge Replacement – Design/Build

SAI was responsible for the final design/build replacement design of a two-span prestressed concrete spread box beam bridge over Downers Run, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

Physical features:

  • 140′ two-span prestressed concrete spread box beam bridge.
  • Bridge deck consists of two 11-0 lanes and 2′ shoulders for 4,130 sf of deck area (out/out).
  • Approximately 200′ of roadway approach with a sharp curve on the southwest end of the structure on a two-lane urban collector with an ADT of 1877.
  • Substructure consists of integral abutments supported on HP piles with attached wingwalls, and one wall pier on spread footing.

Other features:

  • Reduced beam depth based on final design.
  • Reduced approach slab length utilized due to close proximity of intersection with local road.
  • Stream crossing added for easier construction access.
  • Demolition plan.
  • Scour analysis.
  • Traffic analysis and control plan.
  • Traffic maintained via detour.
  • Utility design and coordination.
  • Signing and pavement marking plan.
