Happy Engineers Week to all of our fellow engineers in the industry.

Get To Know: Brian Long, PE

When Brian decided to become an engineer, he did so because he liked to solve problems and wanted to know the “why/how” things worked. During his 28 year career (20 at SAI), Brian says that he continues to enjoy problem solving, although everyday creates more challenges. Throughout his career, Brian says he “enjoys leading the collaborative effort of the design team, client and agencies in seeking solutions that meet the project’s needs.”

As project manager for the SR 422 Margaret Road Intersection Improvement Project, Brian developed holistic approaches to developing engineering solutions. The ability to challenge people to be their best and to develop unique solutions proved valuable on the Margaret Road Intersection project. This became especially evident as design development advanced and studies were performed, resulting in additional geotechnical, environmental, and archaeological challenges that continued to creep into the project.

Leading by example, Brian’s love for problem solving and the ability to inspire his team provides his projects with unparalleled design solutions. As he assesses the Margaret Road Intersection Project, Brian notes that the project has met the goal of improved public safety and just as importantly, the public, the owner, and the project team reached beyond themselves toward a solution that benefits the entire community.
