Our final black history month spotlight and lead-in to women’s history month is Tmnit Gerbu

Celebrating Timnit Gebru’s, PhD, electrical engineering, Stanford, higher aspirations…
Born in Ethiopia, Timnit Gebru fled her homeland at 15 to escape war.  With a PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford, Gebru’s post-doc research has led her to explore the ethics behind the technology of artificial intelligence. As a research scientist (she has been part of Google Brain and Microsoft Research), she seeks to empower people from marginalized communities. “It’s essential to have a wider group of people in the world determining where AI technology goes…” Her work in AI ethics invites people to challenge and rethink the ways we see, understand, and interact with our world.
