The I-579 Urban Open Space Cap Project has been selected for the ASCE Pittsburgh Section 2021 Civil Engineering Achievement Award.
The project demonstrated civil engineering achievement by contributing to the well-being of the community, showcasing resourcefulness in planning, placing importance on aesthetic value, incurring a positive impact on the environment, and using innovative materials and methods during construction. Given the project location, a densely populated urban area, constructability challenges were inherent. The I-579 Urban Open Space Cap Project demonstrated sensitivity to the community needs, safety, and aesthetics and will provide a vital link between communities.
