SAI was responsible for the final alternate design of a two-span steel structure with a pedestrian walkway over the CSX Railroad in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The physical features of this project include:
- 376′ two-span steel composite multi-girder bridge over the CSX Railroad.
- Bridge deck consists of three 12′ lanes, two 4′ shoulders, and a 10′ pedestrian walkway that comprise approximately 20,304 sq. ft. of deck area.
Other features of this project include:
- Structure skew is 75 degrees with substructure units consisting of integral abutments and a wall pier on a pile supported footing.
- Investigated alternate design to develop cost-saving measures including eliminating an entire girder line from the as-designed structure and reducing overall fabricated steel weight by approximately 270,000 lbs. Also reduced the number of bearings and evaluated the as-designed substructure for the revised loading conditions.
