Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania
SAI was responsible for the roadway improvements including the replacement of the mainline pavement for the north and south bound lanes of SR 0119 between the SR 0819 Interchange to Crossover Road (median crossing for emergency vehicles) near the Westec Drive Interchange. Work included ramp reconstruction for the SR 0119/SR 0031 Interchange and adjustments to the profile of SR 0119 to increase vertical clearances under existing structures that span over SR 0119 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
Physical Features:
- Approximately 5 miles of four-lane limited access roadway (urban non-interstate) with an ADT of 18,828 (8% trucks).
Other Features:
- Cement stabilization for subgrade improvements was used in lieu of traditional undercut with a value engineering savings of approximately $2.5 million.
- Safety improvements, upgrades to drainage, guide rail, signing and pavement markings.
- Overpass structure preservation including beam repair, downspout replacement, deck repairs and epoxy overlay.
- Traffic signal design.
- Traffic maintained via phased construction for SR 0119 including cross-overs at the north and south limits and temporary ramps. The SR 0031 ramps required a detour.
- ITS components were included as part of the overall roadway improvements.
- Erosion and sedimentation control plan.
